Curve New York – a bright spot this February

by Underlines

Curve New York ran last weekend from 6-8 February and brought together over 175 brands showing from all over the world. Bok Goodall visited the show and picked out some highlights.

It was a beautiful sunny Sunday in New York and I was hugely excited to be back at Curve for the first time in a while. As usual the Show displayed lots of European brands but many US brands were there too, resources we just don’t see at home.

We started the day with a panel hosted by the inimitable Kimmay Caldwell (or Hurray Kimmay fame) on how to use your social media to grow your lingerie business – very informative and watch this space for links to the recording when it is available! Other running events across the 3 days were Trend Seminars, Bra-Fitting Workshops (hosted by Elomi, Freya, Fantasie and Goddess), a Beauty Lounge, Trend Area, German Pavilion and of course the third event of the Lingerie Briefs Salon (see below). There was a positive mood for most of the three days.

Here I pick out some brands that caught my eye as well as newcomers such Julia Haart’s shapewear (star of Netflix’s My Unorthodox Life) and the retro appeal of UK brand, Scarlett Gasque, with founder Chloe Rogers.

Bra Barfounded by Wendy Herman (ex Calvin, ex Yummy). Wendy started product development in 2017 after noticing an opportunity in the market for non-wired bralettes for larger cup sizes (her daughter was a 28DD). She launched in 2019 with wire free bras for junior/younger customers although mums are stealing in on the act! She describes it ‘as if a sports bra and a bralette had a baby! The dreamiest, most supportive wire free bra’. The core collection is focussed to small band, large bust (28AA to 38DDD in all styles with a few styles offered up to 40 back and H cup). You can get more info from babs@shopbrabar.com.

Commando – shapewear with high control zoned panels that make it look like corsetry, absolutely beautiful and complemented with fun sparkly pieces and the sheerest shapewear I’ve ever seen!

Dita Von Teese – very involved with her customer and crowd sources colours each season asking her social media followers which colours/shades they prefer. And green is big! Victress is the kingfisher green set in foiled embroidery and Severine is recoloured in lime green – size inclusivity is a constant.

JIV Athletics – blending tech and fashion the brand removes cameltoe from the wardrobe with moisture control, tech spacer fabric and patented breathable 3D moulded fabric to keep your privates private! More info from nika@jivathletics.com.

Montelle Intimates – as always their stand was packed all day, every day! Montelle Intimates, Rya Collection, Fleur’t all known for great bodysuits and never been available in the UK until now! Excitingly the brand will now be represented in the UK and Ireland by Poolside Agency. Contact Anna Akerlund on anna@akerlund.co.uk.

No visit would be complete without visiting the Lingerie Briefs Salon (now in its third edition) and this year showing collections from Apilat Lingerie, Funari, GOD SAVE QUEENS, Love Under, Pagan Poetry, Odette Ancel, LoveSuze, Something Wicked, IHUOMA, Belle-et-Bonbon, Odette Ancel Paris and LUUNA MINE.

Cuve has expanded its reach to the West Coast and Canada with Curve Los Angeles (18-19 February) and Curve Montreal (11-12 August). Look out tomorrow for a special look at the VIP Fashion Show which was held at the Venue at the Hard Rock Hotel on Sunday 4th February featuring some of our favourite European and American brands!
