London-based Ruby Raut has been recognised as one of this year’s most exceptional business leaders at the Great British Entrepreneur Awards 2022 Grand Final: named as Sustainability Entrepreneur of the Year for London and the East of England.
Founded in 2017 by husband-and-wife team, Ruby Raut and Dave Slocombe, WUKA is the UK’s leading period wear brand and was the first in the UK to produce fully leak-proof reusable period underwear that completely replaces the need for pads and tampons.
Ruby was among 12 London & East of England entrepreneurs who went home with prizes in categories from Health & Beauty and Sustainability to Family Business and the overall Great British Entrepreneur of the Year Award, which was won by Jordan Brompton of myenergi Ltd.
Ruby said:
Sustainability has and will always be part of the WUKA DNA and it’s so heartening that our hard work in this area is being recognised. Having won a Great British Entrepreneur Award for the first time in 2017, the year we launched, winning again this year in this category feels like a full circle moment. The competition in this category is huge, which is heartening to see that sustainability is becoming a priority for so many brands.
I’ve been hugely inspired on both a personal and professional level by all the nominees in the sustainability category this year. It’s so important for businesses to lead the way in creating a better world for future generations and it’s acknowledgment like this that will help to set the benchmarks and encourage other individuals and businesses to follow suit.”
