For the Autumn/Winter 2016 collection, Marlies Dekkers was inspired by the goddess of strategic battle Pallas Athena. Marlies speaks of the powerful ideas behind the collection: “All my work as a feminist designer is inspired by muses, powerful female icons from past and present. Although women have been marginalised for centuries, archetypes of female power have always been there and through my designs I bring them to you, to help us shape the world of modern-day feminism.”
The embodiment of female intelligence, Pallas Athena is tough, clever and glorious. Her wisdom guides heroes in conflict, like when she presented Perseus with a very smart gift: her own bronze shield. The reflections on the shield made it possible for Perseus to see Medusa without being turned into stone, enabling his ultimate victory.
“Today, I want this smart and sensual goddess to inspire us, modern women, to move forward. To whisper wisdom in our ears and to lead us to victory, looking gorgeous in the process” adds Marlies Dekkers. “My Pallas Athena collection invites you to be a heroine in the most important battle in a woman’s life: the battle inside your own mind. Dare to be victorious.”
