Maryan Mehlhorn unveils a luxury SS21 swimwear collection that resists the transitory nature of trends, focusing on the combination of comfort, know-how, fabrics, craftsmanship and tailoring. Craftsmanship is concealed in bead embroidery as well as in the perfect balance of drapery and colouring, while fabrics with a metallic effect or leather finish make down-to-earth earth tones sparkle.
Scoop necklines, modelled bandeau shapes, waist-emphasising belt elements and subtle cut-outs are featured throughout, as well as decorative strapping, beaded fringes and hints of corsages. Earthy tones like camel, lake blue and pearl white steal the show, followed closely by rich gemstone colours such as amber or emerald, classic black, light silver, pale yellow gold and warm copper.
Highlights from the collection include:
- NUDA & PURA – Black and camel reveal the art of minimalism in linear architectural shapes which accentuate luxurious fabrics with a silky finish.
- EXOTICA – Wild leopard is combined with lush rainforest and exotic mandalas for a print of exuberant vitality. Emerald green, sand and shades of brown alternate with accents of amber and purple as lacings, asymmetrical cuts and gatherings create modern looks.
- SARTORIAL – The art of the perfect cut in the perfect colour. Drapery shows up a crucial formula for craftsmanship with styles available in two options, Amber Glow and Emerald Shine, characterised by their lush colouring. The silhouettes impress with their power to become modern classics, including a new deep plunge bikini with wide straps and exceptional draping drawing attention to the shoulders.
- CATENA – Featuring Champagne-coloured strings of pearls, the signature of the M for MARYAN MEHLHORN sets the tone for the self-confident stripe look. The design group focuses on high-waist pants, belt elements and a new halterneck swimsuit with a low neckline that emphasises fine spaghetti straps at the bottom.
- PEARL – Minimalist structures are embellished with hand-embroidered pearls on the décolleté and straps, for a range that blurs the line between swimwear and womenswear. The textured fabric is matt, the silhouettes are fashionable and simple, featuring new, deeper scoop necklines and subtly positioned cut-outs.
- LIAISON – A floral retro look in cool silver, muted green, grey and pink bring modernity and freshness. Handcrafted metallic trims inspired by lingerie lace décors add sensuality, while details such as flounces, piquoting edges, smocked elements and fabric-covered micro-buttons are featured across the range.
- WHITE NIGHTS – Opaque, summery white is interwoven with delicate, light golden lurex threads for a three-dimensional effect.
- COPERNICA – This design group describes a maritime attitude to life beyond sea, ocean and the classic striped look in navy and white with its basic mood of serenity, freshness and relaxation. The base is a fresh white, while a lurex thread in warm, metallic copper gives it that certain sparkle that radiates far into the atmosphere.
- SCOPE – Perfect shapes offer maximum comfort without having to sacrifice the look, as bikinis and swimsuits reflect an intelligent play between clean colours and contours set in brilliant white. With almost architectural precision, purity is also embodied in the material as the fabric is sustainable and has a minimal CO2 footprint.
- BLACK OUT – Two cultures collide: the edgy grunge of the 90s and the new freedom of the roaring 20s. Drop-shaped beads as sparkling, delicate fringe trimmings while functional zippers in XL format give the look a slightly chunky but indestructible touch. This contradiction turns classic silhouettes into modern swimwear.
