Maredamare reports drop in Italian buyers and increase in international visitors

by Underlines

The twelfth edition of Maredamare, the only Italian salon for the swim and underwear sectors, reported a slight drop in Italian visitors and a 12% growth in foreign buyers. As underlined by Alessandro Legnaioli, president of the show,  this drop in the domestic market was expected and made worse by a blackout of the railway network, as well as a substantial growth in visitors (+ 25%) on the show’s digital platform which allowed remote access.

“A missed opportunity for all those who were not able to grasp the importance of being able to preview the collections of over 260 brands, from the most famous global brands to the small research workshops for a complete overview of the proposals for Summer 2020,” he adds.

“The safeguarding of the ‘Made in Italy’ mark of excellence was among several subjects up for debate, as well as the increasingly urgent push on internationalisation and the need to be better represented in the Italian textile/clothing supply chain. All fundamental themes for getting the urgent re-launch of a sector going, which is made up of small and medium-sized artisan companies that must also pass through countries that are most strategic on business trips.” A new format is being studied for the next edition which will be held as usual in July within the Fortezza da Basso complex, and in agreement with the exhibitors it was decided to schedule the fair from Sunday to Tuesday.
