The Cabildo de Gran Canaria and IFEMA MADRID today unveiled some of the main new features of the new edition of Gran Canaria Swim Week by Moda Cálida, which will begin on 5 October and will run for three days of fashion shows until 7 October. The event will take place at the ExpoMeloneras venue in Maspalomas.

The keys to the catwalk, the only one of its kind in Europe and an international benchmark in beachwear, were revealed by the president of the Cabildo de Gran Canaria, Antonio Morales; the councillor for Economic Development, Industry, Trade and Crafts, Minerva Alonso; and Ana Rodríguez, the director of the catwalk.

Gran Canaria Swim Week by Moda Cálida renews its commitment to new talents and emerging brands, as well as to established brands, which make up a catwalk show characterised by bringing the iconography of Gran Canaria closer to trendy swimwear. The event promotes talent and is a unique showcase to present collections created based on criteria of sustainability, quality and contemporary design.

The designers are made up of 17 from the Canary Islands – 15 from Gran Canaria and 2 from La Palma – 5 from mainland Spain and 9 from abroad, from countries such as Italy, France, the United Kingdom and Israel. Prestigious figures such as Ágatha Ruiz de la Prada, Dolores Cortés or Aurelia Gil, continue to contribute their savoir faire to a catwalk that year after year incorporates brands with a high level of design and prestige, committed to sustainability and focused on a young public interested in fashion.

To further popularise the event, the fashion shows can be followed on a big screen from the new terrace of GCSW by MC in ExpoMeloneras. In this space with eating and chill out zone, anyone who wishes can follow the event.

Three days of fashion shows

On the opening day, Thursday 5 October, there will be fashion shows by Pin Up Stars (Italy), Alexandra Miro (UK), Pomeline (La Palma, Spain), Pain de Sucre (France), Dolores Cortés (Spain), Diazar Atelier (La Palma, Spain), Gottex (Israel), Gisela (Spain), Miss Bikini (Italy) and Nuria González (Gran Canaria, Spain). The second day, Friday 6 October, will continue with Bohodot (Spain), Edelvissa (Italy), Melissa Odabash (United Kingdom), Maldito Sweet (Gran Canaria, Spain), Como un Pez en el Agua (Spain), Chela Clo (Gran Canaria, Spain), Palmas Swimwear (Gran Canaria, Spain) and the always faithful to the event, Ágatha Ruiz de la Prada, who will close the second day of fashion shows. Finally, opening the closing day of this edition, the new creators Patricia Caro (Gran Canaria, Spain), M&R Design (Gran Canaria, Spain), Volcano Blood (Gran Canaria, Spain), Monnur (Mallorca, Spain), Libérrimo (Gran Canaria, Spain), Muchachio (Gran Canaria, Spain), Chacho Souvenirs (Gran Canaria, Spain), DnuD (France) and Banana Moon will present their bets for next summer. The day will continue with the fashion shows of Arcadio Domínguez, Sanjuan, Aurelia Gil, Cala 1789 (France) and Elena Morales (Gran Canaria, Spain).

GCSW by MC Awards

Gran Canaria Swim Week by Moda Cálida reinforces its commitment to beachwear with the presentation of three awards focused on promoting the work of designers. These awards will be given to the Best Collection – sponsored by Louzao Mercedes-Benz; the Best Sustainable Collection – sponsored by MaredaMare and the magazine CyL Moda Ínrtima; and to the Best Emerging Collection – sponsored by Mahou 5 Estrellas. The three awards will be presented on Saturday 7 October at 19.30h after Sanjuan’s fashion show by the president of the Cabildo, Antonio Morales.

Sponsorships and Collaborators

The catwalk has the participation of eleven sponsoring brands, which have shown their unconditional support to the fashion industry with their participation in this edition. These brands are ExpoMeloneras, Louzao Mercedes-Benz, Alfaparf Milano, JLH Peluquerías (José Luis de las Heras), Mahou 5 Estrellas, Fund Grube, Malfy, Multiópticas, IQOS, Perchel Beach Club and Maredamare.

A commitment to digitalisation

As in previous editions, the catwalk will have a virtual press room hosted on the Moda Cálida website  and on Instagram Twitter  and Facebook

The hashtag #GranCanariaSwimWeekbyMC will serve as a tool to viralise the event on social networks. The parades can be followed live on the website, which is visited by users from the United States, the United Kingdom and Germany, among other countries.
