BOOST KICKS OFF BREAST CANCER AWARENESS MONTH WITH John Lewis POP UP

by Underlines

Kicking off Breast Cancer Awareness Month in style, an innovative new breast form company is set to burst into one of London’s most historical stores with colour, funkiness and positivity. Cornwall based start-up Boost is taking over a corner of John Lewis’ iconic Peter Jones shop floor with their popular alternative breast forms. Company co-founder Sam Jackman explained why Boost’s products were important for the breast cancer community;

Breast cancer is such a disempowering journey, where things are done ‘to you’. There is  a treatment plan, there are schedules of appointments and the way your body looks and feels changes in ways that you can’t control. This has been something that has driven Boost, in our design work and our drive to change the way that breast forms look and function. Taking control of who you are, your identity and how you look can be really important to some women.”

Inspired by her mum’s experience after mastectomy, Sam left a career in the arts to pursue her vision for creating lightweight, breathable and beautiful breast forms that can be worn in most bras and swimming costumes, so women weren’t limited to special post-surgery options. Sam says,

Teaming up with the Great Brand Exchange for our pop-up at John Lewis’ flagship Peter Jones store means that we can open up women’s clothing and lingerie to breast form wearers. Boost’s breast forms are available in feel-good colours, beautiful patterns and with great functionality which means it can be worn in many different types of bras and swimwear, making the women’s wear department more accessible. Without being limited to ‘special’ clothes for breast form wearers, we hope that women who’ve had breast cancer can enjoy regaining their style in a fabulous store like John Lewis.

Breast Cancer will affect one in seven women in their lifetime, and is the world’s most prevalent cancer according to the World Health Organisation.

The more we are talking about breast cancer, the more we can be aware of the signs and symptoms,”

 Sam adds

“In the future, I hope that no woman will need a mastectomy, but for now, Boost is here to do all we can to provide options to help women after surgery.”

Catch Sam and the Boost Team at Peter Jones, Sloane Square, London from 2nd- 8th October.
