The 25th edition of the Gran Canaria Swim Week by Moda Cálida took place on 21-24 October 2021, featuring up to 40 SS22 collections from Canarian firms, national and international designers, young talents and established brands. Opening the event with a positive atmosphere, the first show displayed emerging firms Laut, Suhárz and Roman Peralta, all of them with a common denominator: originality. Diazar presented its “Hélade” collection inspired by the classical era and reinterpreted with a fresh vision through feminine, masculine and genderless looks, focusing on sustainable development, accessories, signature jewelry and palm tree crafts.
For her special attention to the use of sustainable fabrics and manufacturing processes that respect people and the planet, designer Elena Morales has been awarded the Best Sustainable Collection Award, sponsored Nylstar and b2b magazine CYL Moda Íntima. In addition, the Canarian firm Gonzales was the winner of the L’Oreal award for Best Collection for the high quality of its designs and mastery in creating its own universe.
As for the swimwear fashion shows, Canarian firm Aurelia Gil, last year’s winner of the award for the best collection, presented a surprising and showy collection that runs along different paths, some prints and others in colour block, but all equally sophisticated with refined lines and elaborate shapes. Ágatha Ruiz de la Prada presented a fun show in two blocks separated by sex – in the feminine side, colour, vitality and know-how beachwear, while the men section featured a colourful mix of swimwear and boxer aesthetic garments.
One of the international brands debuting in this edition was British Alexandra Miró, who with her collection “Island” celebrated colour and prints through playful and sensual sculptural designs. Founded in 2007 by twin sisters Ayca and Zeynep Sadikoglu, Turkish brand Oye Swimwear another international highlight with its collection halfway between swimwear and resortwear, offering handmade exquisite shapes and high quality materials.
