Pongees unveil Autumn/Winter 2018 lingerie fabrics

by Underlines

It is not surprising that when the future is uncertain, designers create strong looks to face the unknown, alongside those that evoke nostalgia to represent more gentler, familiar times, says silk fabric specialists Pongees. The new Pongees collection is full of contradictory qualities and colours to address these diverse trends. “The new season brings modernism with a feminine accent, austerity infected with romantism, so there is utilitarian, no nonsense lingerie juxtaposed with decadence and luxury,” explains Will Steele, Managing Director at Pongees. “Think cool, clean and aloof, wanton, passionate and sexy, a Helmut Lang/Sarah Moon hybrid.”

Shortly available to buy online from its new website, Pongees offers dozens of fabrics with tensile strength and lustre, structural yet soft. Best known for its extensive colour palette, steel, graphite and pewter shades appear in stretch satins, which contrast with lily and dusky chiffons; peach, blossom, blush, melba, sable and nude to evoke a feel for a bygone era.

As the fascination for textiles and traditional art from indigenous cultures continues from last season, every corner of the globe is explored – from the Russian Steppes to the Mojave Desert. Vivid, vital and nurturing desert tones – rust, amber, crimson, burnt orange, turquoise, lapis, emerald, sapphire, ruby and jade are just as important as cool mountain hues, ocean greens and midnight blues which can be found in the collections of crepe de chines, stretch georgettes, power tulles and 3D laces. Pongees is going to be at Interfiliere New York and London’s Textile Forum.
