Suzy Says… Colour Me Confident

by Underlines

Hopefully, these tips can help you to get there.

Carrying on with our Anatomy of a Bra series, we are focusing  on colour today and how you put it into work as accurately and seamlessly as possible.

We break colour into three categories:

Core or Essential colours. These are the foundation and the volume of most collections. If we are in the intimates category often black and body tones inhabit this area. The time period these exist for is often at least a year. A good litmus test for this is to think about these being the colours that you believe your target consumer will reach for every day or at least the bulk of the week.

Fashion Basics. These are colours that bridge the gap between wardrobe staples and fashion pops. These shades can live for four to six months. In recent years, we see more and more of these within collections. And the bonus is that if a 6-month colour has amazing reception, it might declare itself as an Essential one. So in a sense they become a bit of a testing ground. One caution is to not have too many of these at one time because like fashion colours, they can split sales for your brand.

Fashion. These are straight-up, of-the-moment and/or colours that bring joy, attention, and a certain jean-a-sais quoi to your brand. They drive excitement and sales of the big guns above.

Once you land on what you love, how do you put them into work? First, you need a standard. Pantone is the most economical and easiest one to get your hands on. Archroma is another service that is very accurate. Additionally, a new player on the scene Coloro is coming into the market. The advantage of Coloro versus Pantone is that the way the colours are named and categorized is much more intuitive. And they are on polyester so you can get sharp colours that are not achievable on cotton standards. Coloro is much more affordable than Archroma. The only downside is that aside from WGSN and some other large companies it’s not as common yet.

We are sharing our color boards with you. These are the palettes we have developed from the Coloro colours for S/S ‘25.
