MarediModa, in cooperation with WGSN and worldwide trend forecasting leader David Shah, presents four beachwear (Radical Honesty, Sporty Activist, Deep Glamour, Gypset Swim) and two intimates (Girl Gang and Precious) macro trends for 2018 ahead of the show in Cannes next month.
Radical Honesty
Radical Honesty celebrates diversity by redefining unisex and genderless swimwear, as well as discovering a new femininity, tapping into a minimalist aesthetic played with a subtle colour palette. Simple shapes, graphic lines, geometric and arty collaged patterns appear in pieces that highlight the beauty of women bodies through their second-skin nature, using soft, sustainable and comfortable materials. A touch of warmth lights up this minimal trend with shades of deep rusted orange and soft apricot.
Sporty Activist
Energetic, innovative and sophisticated, Sporty Activist takes inspiration from the blurring lines between swimwear and activewear. All-over statement prints, bold geometric patterns, intense colour blocking, architectural lines and innovative fabrics reflect the concept of a high-tech, energetic and sporty performance.
Deep Glamour
Deep colours tell the story of a luxurious decadence where historical references meet an ultra-modern aesthetic, a new romantic and glamorous mix of heritage and drama. Bold decorative prints are combined with 70’s inspired geometric patterns and dark florals, embracing a new kitsch attitude played with fluid swimwear fabrics, refined details and finishes.
Gypset Swim
Navajo prints join forces with tropical flora to juxtapose creative cultures into one multi-cultural aesthetic melting pot, resulting in a carefree and light-hearted story with a 1970s boho style vibe. A joyful and fresh colour palette celebrates a tutti-frutti blend mixing yellow citrus, purple, pink and nectarine accents. Blues and greens from darker to lighter tones provide a hint of a urban look and feel to this contemporary exotic trend.
Girl Gang
Girl Gang reinvents the 1990s aesthetic through a feminist-inspired story for lingerie, using feisty and confident activist messaging on graphics to create a new wave of artistic language that brings together a new generation of young women raising their voices. Highlighting a graphic, bold and fresh aesthetic, this trend also makes the most of a new arty-girly aesthetic mixed with genderless and androgynous references.
Precious
Minimal and graphic, Precious explores a new version of a lingerie story inspired by boudoir styles and a luxurious aesthetic, reinventing refinement and sophistication in a contemporary way. A cosmetic-inspired colour palette clashes with graphic and digital prints played in subtlety with transparency and soft layering through the use of peek-a-boo sheers, lace and brocade prints.
