Mastectomy lingerie just got sexy – and about time.

Lucky Angelina Jolie. To celebrate her recovery from a recent double mastectomy, her hunky husband-to-be, Brad Pitt, treated her to £3,000-worth of saucy underwear for her birthday. But those of us who don’t live on planet Hollywood shouldn’t despair: gorgeous, sexy lingerie is something we can all indulge in these days – whether we’ve had breast surgery or not.

According to Amoena, the marketing-leading manufacturer of mastectomy lingerie, we should all celebrate the fact that the world’s most beautiful woman has been so up front about her decision to opt for prophylactic surgery after being diagnosed with the BRCA1 gene which causes breast cancer. “I think everyone will agree that having her breasts removed hasn’t affected Angelina’s sultry image one little bit,” says Rhoda White, Amoena’s marketing manager. “Thousands of women the world over must be celebrating her honesty as they go about their daily lives following a brush with breast cancer. Looking and feeling good is every woman’s right, and whether like Angelina they have had breast reconstruction or not, women who have undergone breast cancer surgery should be able to wear beautiful lingerie and celebrate their femininity.”

And while mastectomy lingerie used to have a rather frumpy image, this could hardly be further from the truth nowadays, continues Rhoda: “The Amoena range offers some of the most gorgeous lingerie available and it can be worn by all women, including those who have had a breast removed – thanks to the very fine mesh pockets in the cups that can hold a breast form but that don’t stop the bras being worn by women who haven’t had surgery.
