Swiss underwear brand CALIDA begins producing reusable face masks

by Underlines

Swiss underwear brand CALIDA takes its social responsibilities seriously and is now putting its passion, expertise, capacities and resources to work to produce reusable face masks. The high-quality face masks made from organic cotton are being produced via the company’s own production platform in eastern Europe, with several production divisions reorganised to help make this happen. Now, as well as making day, sleep and loungewear, the staff are putting their heart and soul into sewing the masks, exclusively designed for lower-risk situations.

The materials used are mainly sourced in Switzerland, Austria and Germany, and all come from past collections, giving CALIDA’s own design department’s high-quality handmade prints a new lease of life. No additional materials are required and precious resources are protected, thus ensuring a sustainable approach. The masks have been designed and manufactured to ensure the best possible fit, are reusable and can be washed at up to 70°C. For maximum protection, CALIDA recommends ironing the masks or placing them in the oven for around 30 minutes at 80°C after washing. The heat disinfects the material even more thoroughly and kills off any remaining traces of the virus once and for all.

Thanks to the support of longstanding partner and specialist in Cradle to Cradle Certified™ packaging solutions, Vögeli AG, the mask packaging is 100% biodegradable. CALIDA is also planning to launch children’s masks at the beginning of June, using materials and prints from its iconic children’s pyjamas.
