Mode City & Interfiliere have just revealed results of a research study with IPSOS in advance of their July 2016 events being held in Lyon this season. It is estimated that there are some 8.5 million runners (with a 32% increase in female runners in the last two years) and that France is Europe’s 2nd largest market.
1,000 women were surveyed between the ages of 20-55, living in cities with populations greater than 300,000.
Favourite sports were walking or hiking (44%), one-third opted for fitness or workout in the gym. After these top 3 followed watersports, dance, zumba or gymnastics with yoga or Pilates favoured by only 11%. The Paris region was the most active (some 38% as opposed to national figure of 29% elsewhere).
As well as investigating what women enjoyed they were asked their important requirements in sports clothing: comfort (99%); price (92%); materials/fabrics (88%) the cut of garments (86%) and the look (73%). It seems that French women are also quite well versed in technical terms such as antibacterial, thermo-regulating, micro-encapsulation…the most important items on their shopping list are trainers, sports bras and tops and bottoms. Traditionally most women will go to sports shops (83%) as they have high and specific expectations of underwear for exercise and sports.
