A recent survey undertaken by Bravado has revealed that appearance is the least important thing for a mum choosing new lingerie! More than 300 mums took part in the survey and when asked what they felt was the most important characteristic of a bra less than 3% chose appearance, with the majority of respondents voting for either comfort or support as their most important feature.
During pregnancy the average woman’s bra size will increase by one band size, and by as many as four cup sizes, so it is essential to make sure lingerie is well fitted and comfortable. Not only will it make mum feel great, it’s better for her breast health. Underwires and ill-fitting bras can put pressure on milk ducts which grow and develop during pregnancy, which is exactly why Bravado recommends wearing a non-wired bra until breastfeeding has been fully established. In fact, 89% of participants said that knowing this definitely made them think twice about wearing an underwired bra.
Despite this, 64% did think that without an underwire they would feel embarrassed, uncomfortable or that they would look strange. Designers all know how to make a bra look attractive, but at this stage, support and comfort are simply more important to mums! It is those who are going the extra mile to develop alternatives to underwired bras that are set to revolutionise the maternity and nursing lingerie experience for mums. Bravado is certainly leading the way with their latest bra the Essential Embrace™, made from a completely unique fabric, eliminating the need for an underwire as it is so supple, strong and uplifting!
