Marching through London Carnaby Street, D+ cup brand, Curvy Kate, joined the push for body positive imagery; with the aim celebrate a spectrum of three dimensional bodies in a heavily Photoshopped world. Curvy Kate was joined by a group of confident women representing a range of shapes, sizes, ages, physical ability and skin colour with campaigners across the body positive movement.
Led by writer and social critic Natasha Devon, boomed the words “We don’t need to change our bodies, we need to change the rules” echoed through the pavements of shoppers and around the parade of stores full of size zero mannequins. The array of beautiful women put the flash in flashmob and stripped to their swimwear, provided by Curvy Kate for the bustier ladies to showcase the diversity of their bodies.
PR and Content Executive, Aneela Ashraf commented on the day, “It was great to have a group of diverse women, representing the different branches of the body positive movement. From plus size, disfigurement, skin conditions, age or race, there was a tangible visibility that is still missing in mainstream media. Curvy Kate has a strong online bopo community, and as a brand it is important for us to continue to push the message to and beyond our audience”.
Some of campaign groups that took part included Stephen Bell, Love Disfigure’s Sylvia Mac, Changing Faces, campaigner Ellen Jones and self-care advocate Georgia Dodsworth
The flashmob was a joint venture with Natasha Devon and Portrait Positive and was filmed by documentary maker Cherry Healey and presenter Ortis Deley.
