Our roving reporter, Bok Goodall, took in the Evolution Concept Show and The Femmy Awards on her recent trip there.
Evolution Concept Show – 34 brands in two attractive high ceilinged rooms downtown. All of the brands on show were high end and directional including well known names such as Bordelle, Fleur of England and Shell Belle Couture as well as newcomer, Vixen & Fox, showing for the first time and all the way from Australia. They reported that they had a great show picking up new American accounts.
Buyers here are all treated as VIPs – cars are organised to pick up from the Curve New York show to bring them to showrooms, lunch is provided and the atmosphere is relaxed and welcoming.
Held at Cipriani 42nd Street, I was lucky enough to be invited to the famous Femmy Awards Gala, celebrating the great and the good in the US lingerie industry, hosted by the Underfashion Club. The Underfashion Club is the premier non-profit organisation supporting the intimate apparel industry. Their mission is to ensure the future of the intimate apparel business through education and cultivating and retaining talent. They develop partnerships at both high school and college level to provide financial support for students who are interested in pursuing a career in intimate apparel.
Since 2012, the Underfashion Club has granted over $830,000 in scholarships, $170,000 in internships, $150,000 in awards and grants and $14,000 in equipment and continuing education.
The evening was hosted by Tamara Tunis (probably best know for Law & Order SVA but has started in a host of movies, series and plays). The honours this year went to:
Brand Evolution Award – Commando
Iconic Sleepwear Award – Eberjey
Sustainable Innovation Award – Regina Miracle International
Fan Favourite Award – Vanity Fair
Vissionary Award – Mayur Vansia of Victoria’s Secret
