HEAD TO HEAD WITH TAQUIELA WRIGHT OF DELISA ROSE LINGERIE

by Underlines

Delisa Rose Lingerie is the brand created by Taquiela Wright, born through her own personal struggles. Out of a devastating period of her life, she wanted to build something beautiful – a ‘beacon of hope’. Taquiela has an interesting career with 23 years in engineering in industries such as oil & gas, aerospace and now renewables.

Tequila Wright, founder of Delisa Rose

Your life before lingerie?

Delisa Rose started out as an idea during Covid and was birthed out of my personal life experiences and pain. Having been married and divorced I know what it’s like to be at a low point in life and not always feeling your best. This time period was very difficult. Delisa Rose was just what I needed to help me cope with the divorce and the loss of my mother. Two pieces from the Primerose collection are named after my mom, Julia Michelle. I worked so hard the last 2 years and went through challenges that could have destroyed me, but instead I put all my pain in my brand and turned it into something so beautiful. I know my mom would be very proud of me today. This is why I love being a lingerie designer.

To be a beacon of hope for other women around the world through one lingerie garment at a time. 🙂

Why lingerie?

Intimate apparel has always been my favourite garment to wear lol… It really does boost your confidence and make you feel like a goddess. It’s also an act of self-love and empowerment. That’s how I feel when I’m in my own pieces. I feel like I’m the most beautiful girl in the world.

The Delisa Rose brand was launched on February 17th, 2023 at Hotel Za Za in Houston, Texas. The launched was so beautiful. It looked like someone’s wedding day. Primerose was the first collection I launched with.

What is different about the underwear market?

The underwear market has significantly grown in recent years, due to various reasons such as fashion trends and personal hygiene. There’s also been a shift towards inclusivity and diversity in the underwear market. We’re seeing more brands expand their size ranges and offering a wider variety of skin tones well as catering to different body types that promote body positivity. Whereas 10 years ago we didn’t see that. Another difference is lingerie is now seen as a piece of garment you can dress it up with other garments and make it a casual or sexy look. I love that!

Where do you get your ideas?

Honestly it just comes to me randomly. I’m not someone who sits and creates mood boards all the time. I see a vision of how I want my new collection to be and I immediately start sketching it. Then I create a mood around the designs. I’m just creative that way.  My first collection Primrose was inspired by the tall architect building in Dubai.

And your working life?

A typical week for me outside of working as an engineer and running my business, is working out 3-4 days a week, meal prepping due to my busy schedule. Having my self-care/ love time which consist of taking a hot bath, facial and meditation. Reading and catching up with family.

Who wears your collections?

Women 21 and up can wear my collection. I’ve had the pleasure of doing custom pieces for women from various ethnic groups and sizes.

My collections are fun, flirty, sexy, elegant, fashion forward and one of a kind pieces. Uniquely designed and styles that boost women’s confidence.

Who do you admire in the underwear industry?

La Perla, Fleur du mal, Helen Sanchez and of course Delisa Rose 🙂

Any other ambitions for the brand?

I want to showcase at Paris Fashion week this year and become a multimillion dollar brand within 3 years.

Proudest moment to date?

Launching Delisa Rose and showcasing at New York Fashion Week last September.
