For nearly a century, Maison Lejaby has been supporting women in their quest for emancipation, freedom and femininity. The French house has been one of the greatest successes in the history of lingerie and will celebrate its 90th anniversary at the end of 2020 with a special exhibition. Maison Lejaby has given carte blanche to 9 photographers and asked them to showcase their take on a particular decade.
Lingerie is a garment unlike any other – it is demanding and delicate, an intimate reflection of the personality, uniting the body and the mind. These 9 photos will provide further evidence of this, bearing witness to times past, the heritage of yesterday and today, captured by contemporary photographers who offered a sometimes poetic, sometimes sensual vision of women and their bodies. A ray of sunlight filtering through, a particular pose, a delicate beauty spot, an adjustment to a bra strap or a flick of the hair…
The photographs will be displayed at a temporary exhibition at Le Bon Marché until 8 November, 2020, presenting the work of five French photographers – Olivier Amsellem, Keffer, Estelle Rancurel, Thierry Lebraly, and Artus de Lavilléon – and four international photographers – Agata Pospieszynska (Poland), Conor Clinch (Ireland), Alex Franco (Spain), and Marie Wynants (Belgium). At the end of the exhibition the photos will be auctioned by We Give Collab with all proceeds donated to charity.
“This project showcasing our actual archive designs from the past nine decades was brave. To give nine international photographers complete carte blanche to create a single image for the exhibition at Le Bon Marche, and then auction for charity, represented an entirely artistic dimension and sense of liberation. This creativity and sense of honesty represents the values of Maison Lejaby,” said Charlotte Dufort, International Marketing and Digital Manager at Maison Lejaby.
