New organic cotton bra marks milestone in Royce Lingerie’s sustainability pledge

by Underlines

Royce Lingerie are thrilled to launch the Eden organic cotton bra for Spring 2020, the first sustainable product launch for the world’s only wirefree bra specialists. An update on Royce’s best-selling Comfi-bra, Eden is an athleisure-style organic cotton bra featuring a front-fastening zip, soft and wide under-band and padded straps. Available in a neutral grey marl, the bra comes with cotton lining/pockets as standard.

“Eden is a great step forward for Royce as it marks the launch of our sustainability pledge to make 20% of the range organic by 2025. Our in-house design team has carefully created a supportive, non-wired front-fastening bra in a modern shape from a gorgeous organic cotton. As with many Royce styles, Eden has a cotton lining which can be used as a pocket for a prosthesis as well.”

Organic cotton eliminates the use of toxic and persistent chemicals, improves soil health and increases water conservation, all of which is better for the environment and for farmers and their communities. The launch of a sustainable range is central to Royce Lingerie’s ‘Sustainability Pledge’, the plan to reduce the company’s carbon footprint and lead by example within the lingerie industry. Key targets in Royce Lingerie’s Sustainability Pledge:

  • By 2025 at least 20% of Royce’s range will be made from organic or recycled fabrics;
  • All swing tags and are now made from recycled organic cotton (almost 100% organic cotton which is repurposed into paper-like labels using vegetable-based inks and chemical-free dyes);
  • All products are now posted in recycled cardboard boxes;
  • By February 2020 bra wash bags will be available to buy online – by stopping hooks and straps snagging on clothes, these bags help extend the life of the bra and other clothes in the wash.

Royce has also implemented a number of measures to reduce its carbon footprint and encourage sustainable practice within its workforce: its head office and distribution centre is powered by Ecotricity and Green Energy (with solar panels planned for 2025); in 2017 its warehouse became fully digitised and paperless, and in 2012 Royce teamed up with Against Breast Cancer to offer customers the chance to recycle old bras through the bra bank scheme. Various eco-friendly products and practices are in place for its small, close-knit workforce, including office recycling, composting kitchen waste, a bike to work scheme, eco-friendly cleaning products, sanitary products and toilet roll.
