Longstaff Longstaff presents the Buttercup collection, which includes silk robes, tunics, pyjamas and camisoles available in four different stories. Longstaff Longstaff applies original, hand-designed prints to high quality silk to create a feminine, refined aesthetic. The overall inspiration for the patterns comes from Sophie’s own interest in Russian illustration and her passion for the fresh, vibrant colours and highly decorative patterns used by Ivan Bilibin and the costume designs of Leon Bakst. Barnard’s original designs all begin on paper, and are then digitally prepared for printing on silk.
Longstaff Longstaff is so called after the British side of Sophie’s family. Her paternal grandmother was one of seven sisters who each had the middle name, as well as the surname, Longstaff. This British eccentricity has always struck a chord with Sophie, who was captivated and inspired by the stories of elegant parties, wild adventures and handsome suitors. Barnard comments: “I’m quite convinced that the sisters’ penchant for the finer things in life would have made them instant fans of their eponymous loungewear brand.”
