Hannah Donkin, from Northumbria University picked up the first place award

The fashion world has been looking at the bright, young, talented designers at Graduate Fashion Week… But for some, the search didn’t end when GFW did. Sophie Hallette, the renowned French lace and tulle suppliers, held their second University Design Challenge on Wednesday 4th June.

Nineteen final year Fashion Design students from several universities across the UK, chose to incorporate lace and tulle into their graduate collections to vie for the accolade of winning the top prize of £1,000. The criteria were simple: first and foremost was innovative and creative use of lace, secondly technical abilities and finally production of a fully integrated collection.

The talent was outstanding and Hannah Donkin from Northumbria University picked up the first place award for her glamorously dark collection. The first runner up was Grace Weller from Bath Spa, and the final winner was menswear designer Tamsin Pick from Kingston.
