Bluebella is launching its AW19 #loveyourself campaign featuring four uniquely beautiful models, with the goal of redefining sensuality and encouraging self-acceptance. Transgender model May Simón Lifschitz features in the campaign alongside Olivia Sang from the Kenyan village of Eldoret, former professional footballer and body positive campaigner Ali Tate Cutler and Irish-Indonesian Laura Rakhman-Kidd.
May said she enjoyed taking part in the campaign, adding: “I stand for breaking down prejudice that makes people feel smaller.” Growing up, she describes how she didn’t feel comfortable with the expectations she experienced that belonged to her body. She began taking hormones aged 16 and made the decision to transition to the woman she is today whilst working as an androgynous model at a shoot with transgender models two years later.
Ali Tate Cutler, a UK size 16 said modelling has helped free her of body hang ups. She said: “I have been the size I am now since second grade and I felt very insecure. When I first starting doing shoots I would look for fat rolls but the more I modelled the more I felt less shame about my body and when I see a fat roll now I now think it looks cute, I feel free!”
Bluebella chief executive Emily Bendell said: “We are excited by the #loveyourself campaign which encourages women to own and celebrate their own sensuality and appreciate diverse beauty. We have a long history of award-winning and inclusive campaigns which redefine sensuality.” Previous Bluebella campaigns including BeStrongBeBeautiful, celebrating female empowerment through sport, with Olympic and Paralympic Team GB athletes and #DaretoBare featuring a catwalk show across London’s Oxford Circus with ‘models’ recruited from Instagram.
