Olympic gold medallist Denise joined Coco de Mer CEO and owner Lucy Litwack at the event Upstairs at Langan’s brasserie in Mayfair. Stars attending included Strictly Come Dancing presenter Tess Daly, the LBC presenter Rachel Johnson, the singer Deja and the model April Alexander.
Sports presenter and president of UK Athletics Lewis was chosen as an Icon by the luxury lingerie brand to show that “women in midlife aren’t fading – we’re rising.”
Lewis, who was posing for her first lingerie shoot for the campaign, said she found the whole experience ‘empowering’.
She said:
I felt sexy. I felt like I had grown taller and my body was saying, ‘Yes, this is how you are supposed to feel as an individual, as a person, as a woman – and it is not about anyone else, it is all about you.’ For the first time I could really see myself owning that moment.”
Litwack said: “Hearing Denise talk like that is music to my ears because I have always believed that lingerie is our secret power. I used to find it strange when people would say that lingerie is something you wear for someone else. It is literally the only item of clothing we can put on that no else can see unless we choose to show it to them and therefore it is so much more about how it makes us feel. When women come into our store, they leave feeling that little bit taller and more confident. It is not just about how it looks, but how it makes you feel.
“I remember once talking to a surgeon who told me she always wore her best lingerie under her scrubs when she was doing life-or-death surgery. She told me: ‘Nobody knows that I am wearing it but it makes me feel like I can do anything and I can take over the world.’ Lingerie really does make a difference and that is why looking at it through the female gaze is so important.”
Previous Coco de Mer Icons include Helena Christensen, Pamela Anderson and Charli Howard. The brand has partnered on collaborations with The V&A Museum and Sotheby’s.
The Icons lingerie collection includes Athena, Hera and Seraphine and a new range, Aphrodite, which will be launching in January 2026. These ranges are an all-black collection of refined silhouettes created using the finest French laces, embroideries and silk.
