Since 2019, lingerie specialist, Lounge has marked the Breast Cancer Awareness month through its Feel Your Breast campaign, raising both awareness and funds to support those with breast cancer.
This year, the company raised £271,677 through its fundraising efforts, taking the total amount raised through Lounge’s Feel Your Breast campaign to date to £1,287,322. Over the past month, any Lounge customer spending over £55 received two free Feel Your Breast thongs, with £5 from every qualifying order will be donated to The Lounge Foundation.
The Lounge Foundation runs a grant programme, The Legacy Project, through which grants are awarded to women on their cancer journeys to provide support with things such as cosmetic surgeries, wigs, and support with physical and mental health.
Alongside the fundraising initiative, this year, Lounge teamed up with eight women with personal experiences of cancer to share their stories. The eight women came together with Lounge to share their testimonies, and help others understand what it’s like to be diagnosed with cancer, and why it’s so important to raise awareness of the illness.
The women involved in the campaign were:
-
Miriam, 30, from the East Midlands
-
Leanne, 38, from London
-
Dani, 33, from Gloucestershire
-
Shannon, 29, from South Yorkshire
-
Toye, 34, from London
-
Georgie, 32, from London
-
Chloe, 37, from Buckinghamshire
-
Dizzy, 31, from London.
38 year old breast cancer survivor, Leanne, shares her motivation for getting involved in the campaign:
I’ve been part of the Feel Your Breast campaign for the last five years. To have watched it grow and flourish has been an honour to me and it’s such a privilege to come back.
I’ve been cancer free for seven years now, after initially being diagnosed at 30. I discovered a lump around six months after my mum was diagnosed with breast cancer for the second time, and went through eight rounds of chemotherapy, a double mastectomy and reconstruction.
I really hope the campaign inspires other women to not feel fearful. Yes, the worst can happen, and it has happened to all eight of us, but we’re still smiling and seizing the day. If you find it early, it can save your life. Keep checking your breasts.”
Commenting on the campaign, Mel Marsden, Co-Founder of Lounge, says:
We can’t even begin to explain how grateful we are to our community for helping make our Feel Your Breast campaign everything that it is. The Lounge Foundation is on a mission to make a real and genuine impact on deserving lives, with a focus on women’s and children’s health. All funds raised this year will be donated to the Foundation to continue its incredible work.
Feel Your Breast is a hugely important campaign for us every year, and it’s highlighting an issue that’s extremely close to our hearts. Whilst we continue to raise funds towards vital support for those experiencing breast cancer, it’s also important for us to continue to share real stories of real women who have been through the journey.
Telling human stories has always been a big part of this campaign and is extremely eye-opening and educating for our community, and we hope everyone that reads any of these incredible stories leaves feeling inspired to raise further awareness of the issue.
We’re so grateful to all the women that have been so open with their personal experiences in a bid to help women around the UK and beyond understand their breast health, and feel empowered to feel their own breasts and potentially save their lives!”
