August 2024 – B Corp certified underwear brand, Nudea, has partnered with Powering Net Zero (PNZ) Group to offset the brand’s 2023 carbon footprint. By purchasing PNZ Group’s transparent, UK-generated carbon credits, Nudea will be channeling finance directly into projects close to home. Specifically, Nudea will help retrofit homes in Buckinghamshire where the brand is based, making them warmer and more energy efficient, and helping to reduce energy bills and fight fuel poverty.
Having recently partnered with Vaayu to display the full life-cycle carbon impact of each product, Nudea – who has been measuring carbon impact since 2021 – will for the first time see their credits channeled directly into projects close to home.
Nudea’s Founder & CEO, Priya Downes comments:
We’re delighted to be working with PNZ on carbon reduction closer to where we operate in the UK. We have always taken the approach of measurement and subsequent reduction as the first point of action to reduce our emissions. However, there will always be a resulting CO2 which we can’t reduce and by working with PNZ we are directly reducing carbon emissions in our surrounding impact areas. The carbon credit landscape has become an increasingly gray market where traceability of credits can be challenging, working with PNZ means we can tangibly track our impact with an accredited company and make sure our credits are having a positive return. As a B Corp company, it’s important for us to know and understand what real difference our commitment to sustainability is making. Since launch, we’ve focused on better sourcing, for example recycled fabrics emit four times less carbon than virgin fabrics. This is one of the major factors that contributes to our relatively small footprint. We also source fabrics and componentry close to the factories we manufacture in to minimise our carbon emissions. Whilst not ‘carbon perfect’, we believe that every step we take and change we make in our sustainability journey adds up to a greater overall impact.”
Martin Smith, CEO of PNZ Group, said: “We are delighted to announce our partnership with Nudea. Homes are the single largest contributor of carbon emissions from the built environment, and it is crucial to use private capital and the voluntary carbon market to channel finance into projects which can have a significant environmental impact. The Government and households cannot possibly finance the action needed to tackle climate change alone, and the purchase of carbon credits from PNZ Group by organisations like Nudea helps us accelerate the pathway to get there.”
