The Isla Bonita Moda La Palma Fashion Week is a great opportunity to spot the hottest emerging new talents and bright young things of the fashion scene. Especially as the event also brings in fashion students to showcase their latest work. Some of these students are already creating and selling their collections on demand. Such as Raquel San Juan @sanjuanespinosa, who presented the stunning Florencia swimwear collection.
Raquel San Juan’s collection is made with the idea of pieces being multi-purpose, wearable from the beach to lunch, or from the pool to a party. Inspired by the pleasure of living, the birth of May and the awakening of flowers, colour and life that the Spring brings with it, Florencia is born from love and freedom. The collection uses a bouquet of vibrant colours that remind us of nature and spring and summer, with bold colours such as poppy red, rye yellow, and sunset oranges, used to dye cut-offs or recycled and sustainable fabrics, showing the designers commitment to the environment and nature.
Florencia is the face of rebellion that acknowledges the efforts of thousands of women throughout history and is inspired by the indocility of the women of the 50s who refused to conform to the established social norms.
These women – like those who wear the Florencia collection – dared to show themselves as alive and passionate. And reflecting this, the collection is full of silhouettes that exhibit the beauty in all body types, shapes and sizes. These silhouettes also include an essence of the 1920’s-1940’s, when women started to wear swimsuits that were tighter around the waist and bust than previous designs had ever been. Whilst this was the most significant development swimwear had ever seen, women were still required to accompany their costumes with skirts to preserve some modesty, with fines for those who refused to conform.
Designed to empower the wearer to feel proud of their curves, Florencia is inspired by those brave women, who laid the foundations for today.
