Ten years ago, the exclusive partnership established between Carvico and ECONYL® gave birth to a selection of eco-sustainable fabrics which have revolutionized the global market swimwear, inspired sportswear, and changed the most famous designers’ style.

Even though, over the past years, the world of fashion has been negatively affected by several factors including greenwashing campaigns, there are still some partnerships and projects which are operating for the safeguard of our planet.

Our resources are extremely limited and, being aware of this, 10 years ago, Carvico and Aquafil started working on a pioneering project which led to the creation of an eco-sustainable fabric made of regenerated nylon boasting the same features of those made of virgin nylon from fossil sources which could provide creative people, innovators, and consumers with an alternative solution.

These two companies, whose partnership was a consolidated one, shared the willingness to put together innovation, production, and eco-friendliness.  ECONYL® by Aquafil is produced by recovering and regenerating pre- and post-consumer waste materials such as fishing nets, carpet fluff, and industrial plastic. The production of 10.000 tons of ECONYL® prevent the use of 70.000 oil barrels and the release of 65.100 tons of CO2 emissions.  Furthermore, ECONYL® production process has an impact on global warming which is 90% lower than the process needed to produce standard nylon.

It was back in 2012 when the green revolution which has turned sustainability into designers’ priority had just started, and Carvico R&D lab launched Vita, Revolutional®Eco, Norway, Pantelleria, X-Eco which opened the way to many more eco-friendly fabrics. Nowadays, sales of recycled fabrics accounts for 40% of Carvico Group overall sales; 70% of such fabrics are sold in Europe (including East Europe ), 25% are sold in America and 5% in Oceania.

Originally conceived for swimwear – Carvico had an exclusive contract concerning the use of Econyl® in that market – these fabrics started appealing also to sportswear brands and to all those designers who appreciated their perfect mix of creativity and sustainability.
