Sustainable Swimwear Labels Breaking the Mould in Spain  at CSFW

by Underlines

CSFW (Circular Sustainable Fashion Week) 2022 returned once again to the city of Madrid as a benchmark event for sustainable and circular fashion in the last week of April. After seven years of urban fashion shows based on eco-design, with different, inclusive, diverse and low social and environmental impact catwalks, this is the most awaited event of the year.

It’s coming around to that time of year when we start thinking about swimwear for summer 2022. And luckily for environmentally conscious female sun worshippers and beach enthusiasts in Spain, there are a number of interesting sustainable swimwear brands to look out for. Here, are three of my favourite break-out Spanish eco swimwear brands for this year that were showcasing at CSFW.

First is Bilbao-based Volett sustainable and ethical swimwear, who aim to produce premium quality pieces which benefit the planet and its people. Supporting small local fair-trade producers, the pieces are made between Spain and Indonesia using plant-based dyes and organic or recycled materials. And the unique designs are inspired by modern women with distinct personal style.

Next up is From Sun With Love – which is a particularly interesting brand as the founder is focused on keeping the body covered and protecting the skin from UV rays  for both women and children. Not only do the premium quality pieces provide 50+ SPF protection, but they also stand out for their exclusive designs and unique prints. Combining sun protection with style, the collection features funky swim shirts, capes and hats, with stunning prints created by local artists and designers. Manufacturing the collection locally in Spain, the brand exclusively uses environmentally friendly ECONYL yarn, or fabrics made from recycled bottles or fishing nets.

Finally, we have Barcelona-based Becca & Cole, who produce minimal street and loungewear using premium organic fabrics. Founded during the 2020 lockdowns, the brand is an antidote to fast-fashion, offering simple, high-quality staples that last. While it isn’t an exclusively swimwear brand, Becca & Cole do have pieces in their collections that can be worn beachside, such as their simple bandeau tops, bralettes, crop tops and figure hugging biker shorts. All pieces are produced locally in Barcelona in an eco-friendly way, using only the highest quality, 100% compact-free contamination organic cotton.
