Brand new luxury lingerie label, Coutille London, have launched their inaugural lingerie capsule collection, combining innovative design with a revival of the artisanal principles that defined the lingerie of the past. Following stints at luxury lingerie design houses La Perla in Italy and most recently as lead designer at Coco de Mer in London, Coutille’s founder Hannah Farrugia Sharples pinpointed the gap in the luxury lingerie market for nude lingerie that solves even the trickiest wardrobe solutions, but also looks and feels beautiful on all complexions.
The Better Than Nude collection includes ‘The High Flyer’ high rise knickers, impeccably designed wired and non wired bras, as well as ‘The Slipette’, a softer-than-butter jersey slip skirt. The collection is available in three shades of nude: oat, biscotti and amaranth, each intended to be worn by women of all skin tones. Sustainability is at the core of the collection, as Coutille sources fabrics from sustainable manufacturers across Europe and and works with an ethically sustainable and family-run factory in Portugal to produce the collection.
“The level of craftsmanship required to create lingerie demands a right to ethical practises such as fair pay and a safe work environment – it is paramount,” said Hannah. ”Beautiful lingerie takes time. We need to respect this and appreciate its value. Working in a sustainable manner comes naturally when we work to the strengths of our suppliers and resist the unnecessary pressures of fast fashion – that culture is worlds away from what we are creating here.”
Partnering with Broderies Leveaux, the oldest and most esteemed embroidery house in France, was the magical ingredient for Hannah. ”I wanted Coutille lingerie to be about showcasing incredible craftsmanship, and the breathtakingly beautiful and timeless aesthetic of embroidery created by Broderies Leveaux, for me, is incomparable. The result is a capsule collection that is both romantic yet contemporary.” Coutille’s website is now live and the Better Than Nude capsule collection is available to preorder in oat at Coutille.com.
