Louisa Bracq Spring/Summer 2021

Louisa Bracq unveils the “Fury to Live” SS21 collection, a nod to the 1955 film “Rebel without a cause”, illustrating the idea of an excessive, sometimes exhilarating but dangerous lifestyle. “The story of this collection begins the day I flew to New York in February 2020,” said Creative Director Matthieu Bracq. “It was the first time I left France to discover the city that never sleeps. In my mind I had collected images and references from books and movies since my teenage years, especially from the “Beat Generation” era, through poets like William Burroughs, Allen Ginsberg and Jack Kerouac, who challenged American conventions in the early 1950s.”

“They brought into the daylight those subjects we didn’t see, or rather those we choose not to see. This led to sexual liberation in the 1960’s and continued until the early 1980’s before the arrival of AIDS. It’s this era that I chose as the leitmotif for this collection,” he adds. “Today we long for the reflection of those times, after the anxious beginning of the year, which has shaken our lives and was anticipated by no one. So let’s find inspiration in the past, remembering the struggles that previous generations may have gone through and won, thus becoming stronger than ever.”

Highlights from the collection include ‘Paco’, a sophisticated range in hibiscus which pays tribute to the iconic French fashion designer of the 60s and 70s, Paco Rabanne. Featuring a chain motif with large links embroidered on stretch tulle (Broderie Anglaise), the eye-catching range includes a new blouse-bodysuit with embroidered collar and cuffs.

The contemporary ‘Tribal’ range it is the result of a mix between art deco and tribal tattoos, offering a new asymmetrical dress with a V-shaped back, as well as a removable embroidered accessory which fits the back of all bras in the range. Last but not least, the ‘Como’ line perfectly represents the Diane Von Fürstenberg era with a striking leopard print. The print is reinterpreted in sparkling colours inspired by the pop art movement and combined with guipure-like embroidery throughout the range.
