M & S hits the headlines over its ‘granny pants’

by Underlines

Marks and Spencer has been forced to backtrack on the re-design of its beloved ‘granny pants’ – after a backlash from customers, with The Sun, The Mirror and The Daily Mail all reporting disgruntled consumers.

Shoppers complained that their cotton knickers – which come in a five pack –  are less comfortable than the old design, as the seams have been moved to the side instead of the front. M&S made a few minor alterations to the design of its best-selling ladies cotton briefs, which come in a pack of five. The lines in question were Supima Cotton & Modal No VPL pants.

The store moved the seam from the side to the front, and made the side of the knickers smaller. The adjustments made them less comfy, according to shoppers. Buyers complained on the M&S website that the redesign was a “downgrade” and the “fit was not as good”.

Bosses at the High Street retailer have now promised to ditch the new design and bring back the old version, after a disgruntled customer contacted BBC Radio 4 programme You and Yours.
