Pongees launch online ordering service

by Underlines

Pongees new website has gone live and designers can buy their specialist silk fabrics online.

Ahead of next month’s Textile Forum (14-15 March) Pongees silk specialists reveal their trends for spring/summer 2019. The company has created a diverse collection to help designers recreate looks reminiscent of the glam rock ’70s and the thrill of Studio ’54, the niave art epitomised by Mexican artist Frida Kahlo and the calmness & depth of the oceans.

Glam rock: voluminous amounts of French organza to billow over tight Duchess satin corsets; seductive georgette to spill from under figure hugging velvet waistcoats; high sheen satins to shimmer on sexy jumpsuits and layers of iridescent tulles to catch the eye and the imagination. Warm tropical shades dominate including deep magenta, dark berry, canary yellow, teal and tangerine.

Naïve folk art: the upcoming exhibition of the clothes of Frida Kahlo at the V & A in London will have a huge influence on fashion and continue the fascination for the naïve and the primitive. Softer tribal inspired colours are sultry – sand and stone are spiced up with soft shades of sienna, ochre, terracotta and burnt orange backlit with khaki, indigo and navy.

The natural slub of Pongees Indian and Chinese douppions are ideal for this homespun trend, as are tasar, shantung, organza lunar and ripple ghazar with their textural and tactile properties, giving a feeling of the artisan.

Deep Oceans: Cool, calming, relaxed, pure, holistic and Hellenic, deep oceans is the last trend for spring/summer. It is based around soft and natural fabrics that skim the body, falling and draping poetically into waves of pleats, frills and flares. Delicate layering of sheers and lace are gathered and tucked over luxurious underlying crepe, jersey or satin adding drama and depth. Neutral naturals, tone on tone of white, ivory, alabaster and porcelain in sumptuous jacquards are juxtaposed with acid shots of mineral yellow and cobalt blue.
