A Contour Fashion student from De Montfort University will this week see a dream become reality when her lingerie designs are sold in one of the country’s biggest high street stores, Marks & Spencer. Katy Menzies’ nude and black lace creation is a re-design of the nation’s favourite bra, M&S’ Total Support Bra, for a younger customer, and will go on sale in selected stores and online from the 15th June.
It follows a competition set by the company for students studying the Contour Fashion course, which specialises in lingerie, underwear, bodywear, swimwear, loungewear, nightwear, sportswear and corsetry. Students were asked to design lingerie that would appeal to M&S customers, reflect style and forward-thinking trends, meet women’s changing lifestyles and lingerie needs and to consider developments in lingerie innovation and garment construction for the woman of 2020.
Katy also won a cash prize and a month-long placement with the M&S lingerie design and technical team at their head office in London. She said: “My whole experience with Marks and Spencer has been fantastic. I am so excited to see my designs go on sale. After an amazing three years at DMU I will graduate next month and I am very excited for the future ahead.”
